Jaqen is a contemporary serif with a distinct aesthetic. Learning from historical methods of practice in metal types the design has been developed to improve reading text in modern applications. Initially drafted by hand to help promote a more natural letter shape, the typeface is then digitally produced adding a more angular expression with wedge-shaped forms, open apertures and subtle diagonal stress. The result is a well-balanced serif type family with the right rhythm, harmony and calm personality for creating readable text in the digital era. Intern Sans is a linear geometric sans serif, a curious combination of simple shapes with a raw character. This typeface is carefully constructed to create the very basic forms of letters and was developed with minimal optical corrections to maintain the blunt and playful character. Letters get their dynamic proportions and huge x-height from construction of 5x5 grid of squares, inspired by sketches on a checkered notebook. This results in a unique geometric typeface with a powerful appearance. Intern Sans's layered variant, Intern Color uses the same construction and reveals the parts. I have just returned from a trip to Malaysia, Java and Bali with my family: my wife had some family business there, so we turned it into a holiday. The last time I visited these places was 26 years ago and I knew things would have changed, but I wasn’t prepared for the ugly truth. Malaysia’s interior has been converted into one big oil palm plantation, Java is choked in plastic and Bali is one endless string of concrete hotels, restaurants and cheap tattoo parlours. Plastic Fantastic is not an ode to the many uses of plastic. It is a wake up call: we really need to stop using disposable plastic!
